Never by Halves

Never by halves, wholly or dead

Never allow what is partial

In love and in hate

In sickness and health

Be of one in the face of the all

A half friend will bleed you, in failed conversations

In plans left to dim interstice

Your words and your yearnings will pass as a fog

Alone in a half-finished life

Half-lovers will freeze you, devouring life

In the space between touching and love

You will pour yourself endlessly, building a bridge

Over chasms of almosts and mights

A half-hearted living, a ghost of a shade

Half a word is a silence in rags

Half a choice is stillborn, it unmakes what it wills

Half refusal submission in flight

If you are then so be, be of words if you’d speak

Or of silence if no words are yours

If you love be of love and let fate play its game

If you hate see it through to its core

A life is a thing, made of moments and breaths

Intent woven slowly by hand

You may knot it or cut it or braid it in kind

Half a start is just threads in the sand

Half a heart cannot beat, half a breath suffocates

Half a poem
