From the garden to Jerusalem

At the table somewhere nowhere special
Excepting that its where I am with you
and so it is
Axis mundi
I Am
building you an idol
From potato wedges, too cold now
Its a cow
I say
Or better yet, an auroch
And you humor me with gentle jabs and
Eyes that roll in well worn grooves
Its story time
I ramble on
About the Minoans and the primordial bull worshiping ancients
Stealing fire haphazardly from half remembered bits of
Archeomythology and children's stories
Coyote at the gates
My cow, you see, is just one in a line with
Many such sacred relics, stretching back to before Ur and Troy were but gleams in some hunter's eye
You Are
patient, with me, somehow
I do it to steal a smile and, knowing this
You choose your moments sparingly
Though in truth I mean it
All the best artist tell true lies
You see
Perhaps you know this too
I wonder back to when some long lost human
Woke earlier than dawn to paint the walls with something beautiful
And told a story to their lover
Perhaps they smiled and
Adam's finger touched the throne
You knock it over, kali in a t-shirt
And I make crocodile keens to a heaven I pretend is somewhere up above
But I know
The lord is jealous and brooks no idols
I simply eat, then, the body and blood
Basking, simply loving that
You Are
