Warm bitter coffee tastes best before the lights are on

When silence lies

immobile

Breath

less

Earthbound lightning stoking the heart to life

If you listen you can heart it

A bowstring tension in the flesh

As warm rivers speed towards the day

and coaxed sweat rises against the chill air

wakefulness from dreams

and the scent of yesterday's cigarettes dewed on my skin

How many breaths were they?

Embers bellowed backwards at breakneck

Chasing flickers of life

Now ash in water in skin

Rich like gave soil

and morning dew
